A flash of the name on the bottle is all that was needed. Bond’s hand is darting out, encasing Q’s in a firm grip. Q blinks, once, twice. A familiar insufferable smile makes its way across his face.
“Just a tad bit of arsenic in one’s cuppa, that’s all,” Q grins cheekily. “It won’t do more than burn on the way down an Addams’ throat.”
All I want to do is write a 00Q fic where the bullet didn’t miss Q in the car and how the movie would have turned out then. (Q trying to stop the system while injured, trying to hide how bad it is, collapsing on the bridge which stops Bond from walking away, etc. etc.)
And then I remember that I cannot write to save my life. Or Q’s.
The MI6 Cafe prides itself on being a hub for our fandom community. And as a part of that community, we would like to get to know you! This week our attention is turning to one of the newer members of our fandom: Ki!
Standard questions:
Introduce yourself. @shadow-in-the-light, I’m a writer who doesn’t write and instead spends years imagining plot in my head.
What was your first encounter with James Bond? I’ve always heard the name James Bond growing up but until I heard a cover of Adele’s Skyfall on YouTube in 2012 and backtracked it to the movie I had never watched a single one. After that I fell in love with the characters and it was all over for me
What is your favourite Q branch gadget? The Omega Watch without a doubt, but the Aston comes in very close second
If you could cast yourself as any James Bond role, what would it be? Oh lord if I could be a Q-branch minion I’d die a very happy woman. Can you imagine the things I’d be witness to? Snarky conversations, shameless flirting, the beautiful creation of such incredible technology? What more could a girl want?
Who or what are your most important creative influences? The shows and movies I watch for sure. Or even the people around me. I can’t even begin to count the amount of times I’ve gotten inspiration for a fic from conversations I’ve heard from friends or strangers or a particularly funny line on tv. Definitely other writers too though. I’ll read something and fall in love and be in awe over the emotion they’ve managed to evoke in me and I’ll just go “I want to do that too”
Questions to pick from:
Bond:
Have you seen any of the Bond cast in the theatre, and if so what did you think? if not, which performance do you wish you had seen and why? I saw some snippets of Ben Whishaw in Julius Caesar and it sparked The Great Theater Debacle of 2018™
It was the most glorious performance I’d ever witnessed and after that I watched every piece Ben Whishaw was in that I could get my hands on. Fun fact: I graduated from a performing arts school and watching those performances made me wish I had chosen to be a Theater Major.
What was your first encounter with your favorite Bond actor(s)? What performances would you like to see that actor tackle next? After watching Skyfall I watched a lot of Ben’s other works. The man has a tendency to play characters who do cute, awkward things and deserve the entire world only to get heartbreak and misery. I have a soft spot for him as Freddie Lyon in The Hour and I would give a kidney to see another season of him reprising that role. But also I remember there being a rumor some time ago that he would play the next Doctor and now that’s all I can think about.
Get to know you:
What is your favorite genre to read? Create for? I have a ridiculous weakness for mystery. I adore a good case-fic but mostly I just end up reading and writing romance with interesting plot.
What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel? Fic? Art? (link) I’m not sure I could say this is very under-appreciated but it is probably my absolute favorite piece.
And because I just spent thirty long minutes searching for this post I can’t just not bring it up: (link) I have this as my phone background right now and it 100% deserves all of the attention in the world.
What are your goals for the future as a creator? What is something you want to try? I would like to start posting my work more. I’ve been writing my whole life and I’ve only managed to really post a handful of stories and more than half are linked to accounts you couldn’t pay me to touch again. I want to actually sit down and write my ideas instead of just imagining them and eventually post them without worrying about how others will see it.
Self insert:
What department in MI6 do you think you would most likely work in? Q-branch, definitely. Like I said before, imagine all that wonderful potential.
